Abstract

There is the need to elucidate objectives of safety and maintenance culture with regards to engineering in our developing country. This requires a thorough understanding of those major culture based impediments as well as solutions to safety and maintenance in our developing country. An effective engineering safety and maintenance culture is essentially holistic in approach, involving employer, employee, industries, communities, end-users, government, private and non-governmental organizations. The study x-rays engineering safety, maintenance culture, need for safety and engineering culture, status and challenges facing engineering safety and maintenance. With these a life saving and sustainable measures were substantiated as a way of life. It also proffered concrete recommendations for rejigging of our industries, personnel and our developing world at large being the main thrust of this paper.
